Food-waste digesters
If you are going to recycle at home you may want to get a food-waste digester.
Benefits:
- Safely gets rid of all food waste at home
- Works all year round
- Helps to keep wheelie-bins clean
- Easy to set up and maintain
- Does not attract rats or mice
- Means less organic waste goes to landfill
- Reduces greenhouse gases
There are two main types of home food-waste digester:
Green cone
Green Cone is an innovative simple to use food-waste digester. Put it in a sunny spot in your garden that has good drainage.
Important information: A Green Cone will not work well on clay soil.
The Green Joanna
The Green Johanna is an environmentally friendly way of producing rich compost from household food waste mixed together with organic garden material.
Wormeries
Worm composting is a good way of turning kitchen waste and small amounts of garden waste into nutrient-rich compost and concentrated liquid fertiliser.
However, it is not a substitute for conventional composting.
