You can apply to vary:

Vary a Premises Licence/Club Premises Certificate

You can apply to vary an existing Premises Licence.

Such as:

  • An extension of licensing hours (if the extension is a ‘one off’ a Temporary Event Notice will be more appropriate)
  • To add licensable activities
  • Change the layout of the premises

Some variations can be made under the Minor Variation Procedure - see below for more details. If you are unsure of which procedure to use - please contact the Licensing team for advice.

The application process for a full variation to an existing Premises Licence is the same as for a new premises licence - including the fee structure.

There is a 28 day consultation as part of the application process.

A 'representation' can be made by anyone who is not in favour of the application. They must address one, all or a combination of the four licensing objectives.

These are:

  1. Prevention of Crime and Disorder
  2. Public safety
  3. Prevention of a Public Nuisance
  4. Prevention of harm to children and young persons

If no representations are received the licence can be issued.

If there are relevant representations the matter will be decided at a Licensing Committee hearing.

How long will it take?

Under normal circumstances the entire process will take 2 months to decide the application.

Minor variation of Premises Licence/Club Premises Certificate

Holders of a Premises Licence or Club Premises Certificate can apply for a minor variation of licensable activities - including timings. It is mostly used to amend the layout of premises.

Please note: It cannot be used to add the licensable activity of selling alcohol or to increase the hours for the sale of alcohol to an existing licence.

We suggest you seek advice from the Licensing Team.
