Christmas comes early for nine local community groups

Nine local community groups will get a boost of more than £33,000 in time for Christmas – thanks to Mid Sussex District Council.

The money will be given from the council’s Community Grants budget after all nine organisations met the new criteria that was introduced last year.

Each group had to show how their projects would meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, enhance the well-being of residents across the district, give evidence of the benefits they would bring and that they were addressing challenges like the cost-of-living crisis.

This is the second set of awards that have been given by the council this financial year after more than £31,000 was given to the community in July. A further £35,000 will be awarded early next year.

Councillor Anne-Marie Cooke, Cabinet Member for Communities and Communications, said: “Each and every one of these organisations and charities does so much to benefit our local communities. It was such a pleasure to learn about what these grants will enable them to achieve and I’m delighted that the council is able to give this money at a time when charities find it harder than ever to find funds for their vital work.”

The nine awards are:

  • Chichester Diocesan Association for Family Support Work - £1,020.
  • Crawley Down Ladies Choir - £4,267.
  • Ensemble Reza - £5,000
  • Eastern Road Nature Reserve - £4,956
  • IMPACT Foundation - £3,680
  • Rites for Girls - £5,000
  • South Coast Skate Club CIC - £5,000
  • The Ukaholics - £1,500
  • Time 4 Children - £2,940
