Mid Sussex District Council launches Urban Events, an exciting new series of events for young people

Mid Sussex District Council is thrilled to announce a dynamic new series of events, ‘Urban Events’ for young people aged 8-15. This initiative aims to foster community engagement and drive activity into Burgess Hill town centre.

'Urban Events,' complements the successful Play Day and Skatefest events and offers a range of engaging activities designed to captivate and inspire the District’s youth. Kicking off at the end of August, the first of these events will include a range of graffiti and street art workshops, using freehand or stencils to create art that you can keep!

These new events highlight the Council's commitment to enhancing community life in Mid Sussex. By offering these engaging activities, the Council aims to bring people into Burgess Hill Town Centre, provide young people with enriching, safe, and enjoyable experiences, and strengthen community ties while fostering a sense of belonging among residents.

Anne-Marie Cooke, Interim Cabinet Member for Communities and Communications, said: “We are excited to launch this series of events that not only provide fantastic opportunities for our young residents but also support our local businesses by driving more footfall into the town centre.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to creating vibrant, thriving communities in Mid Sussex and we look forward to introducing even more in the future.”

The first of these new events will take place in Burgess Hill in front of the Martlets Centre near the Waitrose car park. Booking ahead is required to avoid disappointment as spaces are limited.

The dates and times are as follows:

  • Saturday 24th August (graffiti workshop for ages 12-16): 10am-11:30, 12:00-13:30 & 14:30-16:00
  • Thursday 29th August (graffiti workshop for ages 12-16 for children with SEND): 10am-11:30, 12:00-13:30 & 14:30-16:00
  • Friday 30th August (live urban music event with AudioActive): 12:00 – 17:00
  • Saturday 31st August (graffiti workshop f families and ages 8+): 10am-11:30, 12:00-13:30 & 14:30-16:00
