- You need a separate Temporary Event Notice for each event you hold on the same premises

- There must be at least a 24 hour gap between events that follow one another
Objections
We can’t refuse a Temporary Event Notice unless the police or Environmental Health object to it. They must do this within three working days of receiving the notice.
They can only object if they think your event could:
- Lead to crime and disorder
- Cause a public nuisance
- Be a threat to public safety
- Put children at risk of harm
Our licensing committee will hold a meeting - called a 'hearing' - no later than 24 hours before the event to discuss the objection.
Please note: Applications requesting live or recorded music after 2300 hours in the open (this includes music in marquees, tents etc) are closely scrutinised by the Environmental Health Team and are likely to result in an objection due to the increased risk of the event causing a public nuisance. We strongly recommend that you contact the Environmental Heath Team for advice prior to making an application for events after this time.
The committee will either:
- Approve
- Add conditions
- Or reject the notice
Please note: If the police or Environmental Health object to a late Temporary Event Notice - the notice won’t be valid and you can’t hold the event.
Conditions may be transferred to a Temporary Event Notice from a Premises Licence / Club Premises Certificate if the authority considers it appropriate.
Appeals
If you disagree with the licensing committee’s decision - you can appeal to your local magistrates’ court. You must do this within 21 days - and at least five working days before the date of your event.
Displaying your notice at the event
You must display a copy of the notice during the event where it can be easily seen at all times. It must be in a safe place.
Fines and penalties
You could be fined if you make any false statements in your application or face prosecution if you breach the terms of the notice.
Will 'tacit consent' apply?
No.
This is not the case for a Temporary Event Notice
We must process your notice before it can be granted.
More information: ‘Tacit consent’ means you can act as if your application has been granted if you do not receive your licence/permit within a certain time after we confirm we have received your application.
