Housing Benefit
Housing Benefit can be paid by the Council to people whose income is not high enough to pay for their rent.
How can I get Housing Benefit?
Visit our Council Tax support & Housing Benefit page to see if you qualify.
What is local housing allowance?
Local Housing Allowance (LHA) is a way of paying Housing Benefit for people who rent from a private landlord.
Benefit is based on the number of bedrooms you need and not how much rent you pay. For more information please visit our Local Housing Allowance page.
You can also visit LHA Direct to find your Local Housing Allowance rates.
What are Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs)?
DHPs are not the same as Housing Benefit. They are special payments that come from a separate cash-limited fund.
Please note: No Discretionary Housing Payments can be made once the yearly fund has been spent.
